I had an Avital 4200 installed on a 99 chev silverado 1500.  It works fine except a few lights on the dash radio don't work anymore, not a big deal but was wondering why?  Also, a dealer had said to avoid installing remote starts in any 96 and later gm's, he stated that it will screw up the pcu system cause system shut down in the near future, is there any truth to this?  I'm not as informed as i should be, thanks a lot.

The backlighting in the radio is just light bulbs and does fail after time. There is usually one bulb per two buttons. The dealer is just warning you that if the parts and labour used for your remote starter install were inferior, then don't expect warranty on any components if related to the starter that may fail or have a problem. It's scare tactics.   If the install job and parts are good and the install shop is reputable, you shouldn't worry.
