Older Automate

I need to program a remote for my wifes car i have a new remote just dont remmeber how to program the alarm to accept it.  Dont know the model number of the alarm.

Okay, more than likely it is like the older viper alarms since its DEI. open the remote and remove the battery. right above the battery on the circuit board is a rectangle like chip , it's the biggest thing there so you can't miss it. carefully pop out the circuit board and right behind the chip where it is soldered to the board you'll see some numbers and each one is connected to the chip through the board. some of them will be connected and some will be cut (not connected) it is actually a code. inside the alarm brain is a similar chip that is numbered also and should be cut or connected in the exact same way. that is how they communicate. if you have another remote that works already with the alarm just make sure that that the new one is cut or connected just like the old one. if not the new remote has to match the code in the alarm brain. if you can't do it  most alarm shops can program it for you. please let me know if I was right...
