i put on aftermarket doorlocks on my 89 caprice, they work fine with the alarm, but i want to install a switch in the car that will let me operate the doorlocks from inside, like the standard doorlock switch. I was told I need an insane number of relays, or the factory doorlock relay. I have both, but i cant figure out the installation on this, to make them work with the switch and alarm, the alarm is a rattler300 by the way, any help on this would be appreciated

What kind of switch(s) do you have? momentary-off-momentary (like OEM door lock switch) or maybe a couple momentary pushbuttons? (one for lock one for unlock) and does your alarm have built in door lock relays or did you put the relays in yourself? If you have external relays it could be really easy.

ok, one more thing. Does your OEM doorlock switch have 6 terminals on the back? Something like this...

O O - Momentary

O O - Common

O O -Momentary

ok, you will need 2 relays. Connect the positive lead from door lock motor(s) to pin 30 on relay #1. Connect the negative lead from door lock motor(s) to pin 30 on relay #2. Connect pins 86 & 87 on both relays to +12V (be sure to fuse it. Try 10 amps) Connect pin 87A to ground on both relays. Connect Lock side of momentary switch to pin 85 on relay #2. Connect Unlock side of momentary switch to pin 85 on relay #1. Connect the common pin of momentary switch to ground.

If the door locks work in reverse switch the momentary outputs on the back of the switch around.

If the 10 amp fuse pops try a 15 but i would not go any higher. I am not sure of the exact current draw on your motors but 15 amps should do both motors without a problem. Also try to make the connection at the same place your alarm lock outputs tie into the door lock motors. If you want to add another switch just hook the momentary outputs from the switch to pins 85 on both relays like you did the first switch. Connect the common from the switch to ground as well. If you need a diagram let me know and I will see what I can do. Hope this helps.

Not sure of the configuration of the relay in your picture. The instructions I posted are using a standard relay used in almost all automotive installation. I would be willing to bet some install shop in your area would probably give you a couple. If not they are not more than a few bucks each.

thanks for the help, with that setup my doorlocks should still work with the alarm right?

Yea they will.

Did some looking at the door lock diagrams on this page and found one that is exactly what I described. Just take the wires from the relays that are shown to go to "alarm unlock output" and the "alarm lock output" and run those instead to the momentary side of the switch. One wire to each terminal. Then ground the common pin of the switch. heres the link. Its the actuators reverse polarity diagram. You will just be using a switch rather than alarm outputs to trigger the relays :)
