Hello everyone,

I'm new to this website, I was surfing the web for information on hooking up the Dome Light Supervision to a DEI Viper 300 ESP and found this :)

The instructions from DEI says that the dome light supervision wire is a -200ma output from the alarm.  What I want to do is to make it activate a Miata light kit that is installed in the center counsel part of the car as opposed to the dome light, or along with the dome light.  Can anyone help?

Is the -200ma trigger strong enough to switch a regular automotive 30A relay?

Thanks in advance for any input.  I know DEI sells a relay #DEI 8616 but was wondering if I could just use a regular automotive relay.  Circuit City quoted me $30 bucks for the relay.

yep, just a standard Bosch or P&B relay will do what you want it to..... the domelight out put of that unit is designed to trip a relay

thanks... I've tried to use the alarm wire to trip a relay, but I couldn't get it to work...  can you tell me how to hook it up? I've tried a bunch of combinations from this site as well as the instruction book.

alarm (blk/wht) wire - 85  12v constant - 86   Ground - 87   Output -30

the output on the alarm trigger is only about .6 volts

are you trying to get that light to flash with the parking lights or do you have a separate for the dome light feature?
86 12v fused
85 ground from alarm
87 - or + which ever is needed for the light
30 to wire for light
Good Luck

Hello All,

Yes, I am attempting to use the alarm dome supervision wire (WHITE/ black) to trigger a replay to light a light bulb (not the dome light).  I've tried the combinations listed above but it has not work.  Am I missing something?

The instruction book says it gives out a (-200ma) signal, but when I use a volt meter, it puts out a positive 0.6 volt reading.  Am I suppose to hook up the external lights ground lead to the relay?  This negative signal stuff got me bugged, I can't seem to picture it or make it work

Thanks again for your help and advice.

Should it be something like this?

86 12v fused

85 ground from alarm
87 - or + which ever is needed for the light  (ground)
30 to wire for light (ground ---- light bulb---- 12v fused)

Hello Everyone,

I've been trying to reply to this post, but I can't seem to log in, so I just created new screen names.  Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks for the help again...

Mike
