Is this the same tilt sensor you use to set up so that if someone attempts to tow your car it will set the alarm off? On the description it says that its used to protect entry points where conventional pin switches won't work.

Nope. That sensor is for hoods and trunks. Mercury tilt switches work better than conventional pin switches because they are enclosed and don't rust. It's pretty much the same thing that activates hood lights on vehicles, after the hood reaches a certain angle it trips the switch. If you're looking for a tilt sensor to protect your rims or prevent towing, you want something like the DEI 507T

I am assuming that unit is smart enough so that if you park on a slope, it will only calculate the delta right?

Actually, I have never used this particular unit. However, I have used other microprocessor tilt sensors, and they do calibrate for your position every time you arm your alarm. It can't be bad if it's made by DEI, right?
