Hi I am new to this form and  it has allot of great information, thanks.

I was wondering about installing an alarm in a 89' Dodge Caravan the wire reference for Security information shows that it is a 5 wire alternating 12V+ then it lists the wire for lock and unlock do I have install the relays as shown or just connect the wires from the alam, ( a Avitar Diablo 2)  from the unlock and lock wires.

or can I use the single wire Dodge Caravan on posted here:

http://www/the12volt.com,/doorlocks/page2.asp

Also when adding an unlock to the tailgate do I have to use a relay from the light GREEN/ black wire at the  relay in order to get it to work.

I realize I am woefully undereducated to do this but I figure if I can do it once and make it work then I can do others with less difficulty.

How do you know that a relay is required for a certain type of car? is there a book that you have to consult?

Thank-you in advanced

You have a 5 wire reverse polarity system in the Caravan that you will need to add 2 relays to the OEM wires. https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w is the diagram that you need to complete the task. Experience with the vehicle is how Iknow as well as there are alot of information on this site as well as other sites that can tell you the types of systems in vehicles. You can look here for information on your vehcile: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehicles.asp
