I've installed a designtech international alarm on a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo using the JDL-PK. The alarm works wonderfully. The door locks and window roll-up are great. The remote start is working just fine however when I try to start the the jeep with the key it act's as if it's getting the wrong code. It attempts to start but then cut's off. If I remove coil wire from the JDL-PK the key works but then the remote start is useless. Does anyone have any suggestions?

it sounds like the transponder part of the bypass is staying energized all the time whereas it needs to be activated with the ground out when running

if it's energized all the time when you put the regular ign. key the pcm is not getting the proper signal for the vehicle to up and run b/c of the TWO keys that are active at the same time

hope this helps

any more questions let me know

later

Thanks DS1434.   I think I understand what you're saying. But what is the difference between ground and ground out? The JDL-PK has a ground out wire. Where should that be connected?

Your bypass is activated by a "ground out" or ground while running from the remote start. This ground "activates" just before...during...and a tad bit after you push your remote start button. If the ground is there all the time....the bypass stays "on" all the time, thus the problem with your key not working properly
