Power Windows, How Many Amps Do They Draw?

how many amps do power windows draw, these are for after market. i put power windows and locks in a jeep wrangler about a year ago, now he wants to be able to take the doors off, want to make sure the connector can handle the load of the windows motors.

Depending on the Brand............most are 20 to 30 ampMO

dont remember what they are fused, this was done over a year ago. i seen connecotrs rated near 30+ amps, connecotrs dont cost that much anyways. but thanks for the input

Install 10 to 12 Power Windows a month and all I have in stock ( SPAL & Electric Life ) use a 25 AMP Fuse.............with Relays also on some of them.8 to 10 amp would blow under load on a lot of big windows..........MO

I'm thinking of adding power windows to my brother's 2005 Pontiac Vibe. I've never installed them before but I've heard that SPAL is a good brand. Now I see there is another brand Electric Life. What do you guys that install them alot recommend? How many hours does a typical 4 window install take you? Do you you guys have a .pdf link to an installation manual? I would like to look it over to see how involved it would be. ThanksSteve G

When Power windows are installed, you need to figure the TOTAL draw for ALL windows up or down being activated at the same time.....Not just one.  Otherwise if you & passenger/s operate windows at the same time the draw would be more...

There are at least 6 different Power Window manufacturers....I use Electric Life ( Texas )for Factory Type install, .......SPAL, & Calibri..for Universal install............

I am not saying the actual load amp is NOT less then the Fuse size:

The "amp check" should be done when the window cannot travel anymore & the motor has either stopped or has the biggest load.......

Most manufacturers ship Power Windows with 20 to 30 amp fuses or circuit Breakers for that reason.  Regardless of the actual draw being 5 to 10 amps on a test......

HMMM..........Perhaps you haven't understood the original Post.......,

You seem to believe that while the Window motor/s are activated that the load will be the same or close on every motor.........While most motors will test on a bench very close, they all will NOT load test the same in the vehicle due to window drag, mechanism drag, etc.  So what you want this person to do is test each motor in each door and then figure the proper AMP fuse / Circuit Breaker for the application.  When most suppliers ship there units with a 20 to 30 amp fuse / circuit breaker.  Why confuse the Post issue and suggest to this person that 8 to 10 amp fuse would do?My original Post was for the Overall Power Window & Door Locks.  Not independent.But thanks for the reply....................
