Is the electric motor on a power drill dc? Could it be used on a car? Most drills are pretty powerful and some are variable speed. I want a cheap electric motor to raise and lower a convertible boot cover.

cordless drills are dc. drills you plug into the wall outlet are ac.

But on the wall plugged drills are the motors ac or does the drill have ac to dc converter built in? Admittedly as far as electricity and electronics is concerned I am dumber than a rock but it seems most stuff has a converter built in. i.e. aren't most electrical devices really dc?

wall plug drills are ac thru and thru no converters. most things that turn to dc have those boxy wall adapters and will say. input 120v output 9v or 6v or 12v. or whatever they mabe. but power tools that plug in like a drill are just ac.

hope that clears some things up.
