Alright I fried the brain of my viper alarm and am confused how I did it. Here is what I was planning on doing. On my viper alarm there was a wire that was for the 3rd channel which send a -200ma output. Well I thought I would use that wire and tap into my strobelights via relay well I did that and now alarm if fried. Here is how I hooked it up to the relay.

constant 12volt - 87

ground - 85

alarm 3rd channel wire - 86

postive wire on the strobe lights - 30

So what did I do wrong? Now also the postive wire on the strobe does get a current from a different source. Should I use I diode?

Also now that my brain is fried do you think that I can just get another viper brain and just plug it in? My alarm is about 3 years old do you think that the wiring harness would fit the new viper alarms?

from what you posted, the relay should of never turned on. If you had one side of the coil grounded and the other side with a - alarm output, you never had 12 volts on the coil. how is the strobe getting current? Through a switch downstream of the relay? Brian

Yes I have a swith that is connected to a 12volt source.

The wiring information you gave us should not have activated the relay because you have two (-) sources on your coils. One is supposed to be (+) and one (-) to activate the coil to throw the relay from 87 to 30. What I'm trying to say is that 85 is supposed to be 12 volts constant. There must have been something else you did to short out the CPU of the Viper system. What model number Viper do you have ?? If you find another Viper CPU you can jsut plug / play with the new replacement without having to change your wirin....only if you have the same model from the same year.
