Hi,

My friend has an Autopage RS-855 alarm in his 2003 WRX (manual transmission).  The remote start on it seems to work sometimes, not always.  The times that it doesn't work, he tries to start it with the lcd transmitter and it'll just beep 3 times.  No ignition icon on the display.  Just the beeps.  I can't find anything as far as beep codes for the transmitter.  My only guess is that the transmitter would just need to be reset.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Also, when it was hooked up, I used the neutral position sensor wire from the ecu and diode isolated it to the neutral safety shutdown input wire for the hoodpin, striped side of the diode towards the ecu.  When remote start is working, it won't even try to start with the hood open, but then with the car in gear, it'll start the car, run for like 2 or 3 seconds, then shut down (foot on the clutch just in case it did try to start the car).  Any ideas why it's even trying to start at all?  In neutral, that nps wire is showing ground, so shouldn't the remote start think that the hood is open thus not allowing the car to remote start?  Any ideas, thoughts, or comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Mike

when the remote just beeps at you three times it usually is a range issue. the remote is telling you the car didn't recieve the signal

I've had it learn the tach signal.  As far as the beeping from the remote, we've tried it standing right next to the car.  The place I tried it out at though does have a lot of interference in the area.  I didn't know if the 3 beeps meant something else.  I'll see if I can get my hands on his car tomorrow and check the hood, brake, and neutral position sensor.  Thanks for the suggestions.

You might need to replace your 2-way antenna. I agree with mobile1. If your next to the car and the remote beeps 3 times...do the parking lights flash to indicate that it did in fact recieve a signal at all?

It works fine for arming and disarming the alarm.  No problems, no odd beeps, just the single or double chirp, parking light flashes, and the single or double beep from the transmitter.  It's only when the remote start button is pressed will it do the 3 beeps on the transmitter, and that's only sometimes.  Other times, the remote start works fine.  It almost seems like the transmitter doesn't know what to do sometimes when that button is pressed.  I'm gonna try to get my hands on his car today and see if I can get a better idea of what's going on.  I'll check out the wiring for the brake switch and also the neutral position sensor wire and try relearning the tach signal again.  Thanks for all the advice so far.

I think I may have found a very probable cause for some of this.  The diode he got for the connection to the neutral position sensor was only rated at 21mA.  He said his check engine light came on and it was cel P1590 which is something like neutral sensor high input.  Gotta get a new diode now.  Hopefully that will fix this.  Is it possible though that this diode could've caused the remote start to not work?  Thanks for all the advice.
