Astrostart 2106 w/ Passlock III

I've got a 2106xr w/ passlock III module on a 2000 grand am. This was dealer installed.I am just wondering if it is normal for this model to disable the ignition via the key if the doors were not unlocked by the remote.If my remote fails (like it has) or I/wife uses the other set of keys to use the car it will not work unless the doors were unlocked by the astrostart remote. Regardless of whether the car was locked via the remote or door switch.Are there dip setting for this option or am I just stuck with it.Can't take it back to installer as I've just noticed they are no longer around.Thanks,Brent

This sounds to me like they hooked up a starter kill/anti-grind relay. If you check the owner's manual you should be able to find a reference to "valet mode". You should be able to turn the ignition switch on, hit the valet switch and disable the starter kill to allow the vehicle to start. Hope this helps.

I've read up on the valet mode and I have come to this realization.I have no 'valet switch' AND this does not permanently fix my issue. The valet mode does not stay on, it resets back to normal after 10 starts.I will not remove the anti-grind relay because even though I've had the starter for 6 months now, I still find myself trying to turn it over when I've remotely started it.I guess my main concern is that this wasn't a faulty module but merely the way the device operates. Not much can be done except keep batteries in the vehicle and avoid using the remote lock just in case. I did some testing today and see that if the doors are locked by manual means (no remote) then the ignition is never disabled.

I am not familiar with the astrostart line, but check the manual and see if you can disable 'security features'. On the DEI pieces you can retain the anti-grind feature and disable the starter kill feature by turning off the security option.

Look at levlel 4 in the programing. dip switches 1,2 up press the brake pedal and it should stop this problem...It will disable the antitheft on the Astro unit.   And your passlock should stay in tact depending on their bypass procedure. Good LuckTire Proz Stillwater Mn

There is no dip settings in the manual I have, nor can I find anything online for that model. I've found nothing in the manual along the lines of programming via the remote for security (long term programming)

Doing a websearch, I found an installation manual for the Astrostart/Astroflex units that includes several models in one manual. They include the 500 series, the 1100 series, the 2100 series (I believe your 2106 is in this line), and the 4100 series. I uploaded the manual to the12volt.com here. If you take a look at the manual it gives you all of the options you can change. I am going to suggest you to take a different approach, instead of changing programming options, change how the relay is triggered. Currently your anti-grind/starter kill relay is being triggered by the orange negative output from the system. This wire is active when the system is locked and deactivated upon unlocking, as well being active while the vehicle is remote started. Change this wire from the orange(plug p2 pin 5) to the dark green negative out when running wire (plug p2 pin 6). Changing this wire will activate the starter kill relay only when remote started, providing you with the antigrind function, but not a starter disable when locked. Hope this helps. Keep us posted.
