I need to find the tach wire on my 98 uk impreza so my Galaxy 5000-rs can learn the crank time for remote start. Can anyone tell me how to test for this wire? thankstach wire -- posted image.

You can either pick it up behind the instruments, at the ecu in the passengers footwell or take a feed from one of the injector wires.
With a multimeter set it to AC voltage. Connect the black probe to a suitable ground then test using the red probe.
You should find a wire which shows 1-2v at idle which will rise when you press the accelerator. Generally I pick it up at the dash.

On my chart the color is : Blue or RED / green at coil on top of engine

1.set meter to AC voltage

2. attch the black probe of the meter to chassis ground

3. start the vehicle

4. probe the wire suspected to being the tach wire with the red  probe from meter

5. the meter will read between 1volt - 6 volts.
