I need a little help with a DEI 562T in a 2003 Ford Windstar.I also bought the 556S bypass module.

I haven't installed a security system in about 10 years (I'm gettin' old!) and never installed a RS before. Perfectly capable though!

I bought the KE/RS for my wife for xmas and want to get it installed while it's warm. I found a wiring guide on here and want to check the wires today and possibly mount the module then I'll cut and solder all the wires tomorrow so as not to arise any suspicion. Here are my questions:

1)The primary harness has wire "H1/3 WHITE/ blue (-)remote start activation input" is this the same as the status input? The manual shows the input connected to the program/valet button and I would have to cut one of the wires as this is a prewired button. Is this correct? If so which one would I have to cut? It shows the button grounded on one side. There are gray and BLACK/ white wires. Or would I have to test them after I have it connected. Seems kinda odd that you could use this button to start the vehicle to me. The 556S has a RED / black wire that has to be hooked to the status input and I want to make sure that this is the correct wire to connect to.

2)Also in the primary harness is "H1/6 (-) second unlock output". Would I have to tap the main unlock to the driver door and connect the normal unlock wire to it then connect the second unlock to the main unlock at the FEM? Or is this not even necessary? The doors lock when you put it in gear and do not unlock them when the car is turned off. Kinda dumb and the reason for the keyless in the first place. The RS was just a bonus I guess!

3)The relay sattelite has ignition in and starter out does this mean I need to cut the starter wire in the harness? I'm familiar with this as a starter kill circuit but will it affect starting with the key in this application?

4)Does anyone have the wire color for the rear defrost? If not I will have to tear the dash apart to find it I guess.

5)Is there a tach wire inside the van that I can tap for the tach input? The wiring guide I have says there is a triple coil pack on the driver's side of the engine compartment and this is incorrect. There is a distributor type ignition on the back of the motor up against the firewall from what I can see and I can not get back there without tearing the motor apart. I would think that there is a wire inside since it has a tach. Also there is not much room to drill a hole through the firewall to run the hood pin and tach input wires. I tried to poke through the factory grommet but it's very tight around the wires.

6)Wire color for the neutral safety switch? If not would my best bet be to try and find it in the steering column when I take it apart to install the 556S?

7) Last one!! Is it better to install the start override switch under the hood or in the cabin?

It's most certainly easier to put it inside (see #5 above) but does it make more sense from a service standpoint to put it under the hood?

Any help or insight is much appreciated!

1- if you want to hook the rs activation to your factory remote.
2- if you want driver door priority unlock- cut your unlock motor wire put a relay with the unlock wire with the relay. then hook second unlock to your unlock wire in the car at the fem
3- you can put a starter kill in- green to key side and purple to motor side. you need to cut the starter wire in half- if not needed just splice in the purple to the starter wure
4-take out the radio and the panel there. test the wire its easy to find. i forget what color it is. it is a neg trigger wire.
5-poke through where the cable from inside goes to the engine follow along that - easy to get to. tach can be found at the odd color fuel injector wire in the front of the engine. tach is not inside the van.
6- ground the one half of the toggle switch and the other half goes to the then BLACK/ white on the module
7- put it under the dash wire tie it to a harness down there. it is supposed to be under the dash. you can put it right next to the obdII connector there is a hole there already.

1) The van does not have a factory keyless. How or what do I need to connect the BLACK/ red (-) from the 556S to the status input wire?

2) Which relay wiring are you refering to? Would this work: 12v at #86/ unlock wire to #85/  ground  to #30/  and #87 out to door lock?

3) I do not need starter kill ,so would I just hook the purple wire from the satellite relay to the green starter wire?

4)Thanks! Better that it's already neg trigger! I already need 2 relays for the parking light flash. Hope I still have a few around in the garage.

5)Just poke in between the wires and through the firewall? Use an injector wire for tach signal? I'm guessing there is a common wire to all and then a specific wire for each injector. Does it matter which injector?

6)So I don't need the neutral safety switch wire, just a ground? Is this safe?

7) gotchya!

Thanks!

1- i never used that bypass the status wire is the blue in the little 4 pin plug on the xcrs. use the neg triigers at the fem for the locks
2- no there is a way to cut the wire and put a relay between the unlock motor wires for driver door priority- i dont have it in front of me maybe someone will post before i do.
3- yes purple 562t wire to green in van
4- if it does not have automatic headlights you only need 1 relay for the park lights
5- yes- use the odd color wire at the injectors- pick one and use it.
6- yes totally safe- van will not start in any gear but neutral and park. good to go.

1) It has 4 wires: black-ground, red-12v+, Yellow-keysense-not used, and BLACK/ red input (-): connect this to the remote start status input wire. (What the instructions say.) It also has the key ring assembly. Maybe I was reading this backwards as the 556S says input and the blue wire says (-) 200ma output. DUH! I'll try that first. I thought it meant you had to hook it to the status input!

2)I'll wait for a reply about that.

4)Resolved (I cant't recall if it has auto headlights! Another DOH! I'll check but gotchya!)

And yes I believe it is the base model. It has A/C + power windows and locks but not the power side doors or cruise. Also fabric seats and no cd changer but the radio has changer controls. It was a really good deal and we couldn't pass it up. Not sure what is available in other trim levels but I assume leather, power side doors, cruise control, wheels, and cd player.

Thanks for the help!! It's been a while since I got to play and I'm just getting started!! DVD and cd players are next! It also needs a custom center console!! (Just an excuse to try out fiberglass!!) It's amazing how far car electronics have evolved since I got my first car 15 years ago!! I'll take my cane and take a nap now!!

Thanks!
