My brother has a 1995 Chevy Suburban with a Viper 800 ESP installed in it. The alarm works fine except for one thing.  Twice already, his battery has gone completely dead on him (leving lights on, or whatever) and both times, I had to totally reprogram both keypads. All channels on both transmitters had stopped working, but after I reprogrammed everything, it was fine. But now, last week this has happened again!  WTF? Whay does this happen when the battery goes dead? Can anybody tell me? And is there a way to to bypass this(besides not letting the battery go deadViper 800 ESP -- posted image., lol)  I mean, I'm looking for a permanant solution.

Hey CutDog,

The only and simplest of solutions. . .take the keys away from your brother Viper 800 ESP -- posted image.

Jus kiddin' mate. . .

Add a back-up battery to the alarm brain.  This will be a double plus.  For one it will eliminate the headaches and it'll add extra security if in case they cut the main battery cables.  These batteries are about the size of two packs of cigarettes and rated around 0.75A.  Be sure to feed ONLY the brain and not all the other components as it will drain quickly.  Viper 800 ESP -- posted image.

Hey CutDog,

Most true back-up batteries come with an electronic module which assures that that the battery is charged only when the engine is running.  If you only have the battery then I suggest you cut the red wire going to your main harness and add two diodes inline (diodes leak so doubling will filter the leak) then connect the back-up battery positive between the diode and the alarm module.  Again make sure that there isn't anything else connected here.  Needless to say that the negative goes to ground but keep the wire as short as possible and connect to the brain's ground.  Viper 800 ESP -- posted image.
