Hello all,

I am installing a Commando RST-560 on a 97 Dodge Dakota with automatic trans and aftermarket Commando power locks.

the wiring diagram for my truck says that i have 2 accessory wires, and the instructions for the RST-560 says the following for the H1/6. Brown Wire –Accessory Output (Heater /AC Output)

There will often be more than one accessory wire in the ignition harness. The correct accessory

wire will power the vehicle’s climate control system. Some vehicle may have separate wires for the blower

motor and the air conditioning compressor. In such cases, it will be necessary to add a relay to power the second accessory wire.

So what exactly do I do, should I simply wire both accessory wires to the Brown H1/H6 wire? or do I only need to wire one of these wires in my case?

You might not need that second accessory wire energized. Some times you will find that the second accessory powers things like windows and wipers, which you do not need for remote start.
I just read through your installation manual and it does not list any way to change the second ignition output nor a negative output for accessory. If you find that you do need to wire in more than the one accessory you would need use the brown accessory output to activate 2 relays wired like:
86 Brown from RST560
85 Ground
30 Output to vehicle accessory circuit
87 Fused +12V
This would keep the accessory circuits separated.

thanks for the help, I guess I will just wire the first accessory wire and see if that works.

How do I determine if the vehicle im woking on has +12volt switched parking lights, or ground switched parking lights?

Parking lights are a BLACK / YELLOW wire positive trigger behind the fuse box. To test, ground the black leg of your DMM and probe the wire you suspect of being the proper one with the red lead. Turn the parking lights on with the switch, the wire you are on should change it's state to +12V with the switch on and return to it's previous state with the switch off. With the switch on and the probe showing +12V turn the dimmer switch up and down, the voltage you see on the DMM should not change. This ensures you are on a parking light wire and not a dimmer wire.
