I just installed the hella supertone horn in my car.  It came with a relay which i really had no idea how to use.  I didn't bother using the relay i just spliced the wire and ran it to the two horns( my car only has one).  Should I have used the relay and if so how would i of wired it differently?  Thanks for the help!

You should have used a relay and found out what type of system the horn was on the vehicle that you are installing into. What the relay was for is to convert the polarity for the horn wire or to boost the current wire's polarity to operate the horn's.

 HORN TRIGGER|gray or blu/grn     |-  |steering column

The Acura uses a (-) trigger horn that you will need to tap into. I 'm not familiar with the Hella system but does it require a ground for activation or a 12 volt ?

Use this wiring diagram for the Hella horn: Negative to Negative Relay Diagram . This will boost the (-) signal coming off the OEM horn wire.

  • 87 -  GROUND
  • 85 - Horn wire from vehicle ( just attach a wire to the gray or blu/grn wire and connect to this terminal on the relay )
  • 30 - This goes to the (-) of the Hella horn
  • 86 - constant 12 volt input. This goes to a constant wire and use a 10 amp inline fuse for this wire
  • 87a- NOT USED

Actually i think i might have it.  I'm gonna run the wire from the stock horn to the hella horn and then instead of grounding that horn run the wire to 85 on the relay.  Then run 86 to the battery, Use 30 and run a wire to the second horn, then ground the second horn and ground the relay with 87.  Is that right???
