starter kill / remote turn on?

My car turns off the HU momentarily when turning on the ignition. How can the passive starter kill that's hooked up via the remote turn on lead work if the HU is off when starting? The diagram I'm referring to is in the relay diagram section on this site.

Heah wait a minute...If we connect the power leads of the HU directly to the battery, completely bypassing the ignition system, the starter kill would work. Right?
