try:

www.nicoclub.com/FSM

Select your vehicle and look for an "LT.pdf" file.  All the wires regarding lighting should be there!

The module has an "ignition sense" input - basically it's an input on the module that is just looking to see if the ignition is on.  It could also be called an Ignition input.

are the 05 nissan altima a positive or negative headlight system? or neither?

In the positive systems the 12volts is switched to the headlight and the ground is constant.

In the negative systems the 12 volts is constant and the ground is switched.

Assuming the '06 is similar to the '05 (not sure why they don't have a manual for the '05) look at page 9 of the LT.pdf file I mentioned above - it shows the + outputs for all the lights.

The low beam sense would be either a RED / yellow or a blue wire at the IPDM (typically under the hood) and the high outputs would be blue/white and green (there are seperate outputs for each light).

If you go back up to page 8 you will see your ignition sense wire - a purple wire going to pin 11 on the BCM (I believe your BCM is under the steering wheel).

Unfortunately, for you, Nissan has an overengineered headlight system that uses a data bus for the actual headlight switch.  The databus information is decoded by the BCM and the info is sent through the CAN bus to the IPDM under the hood.  So, basically, there is no way to interface the lights without going under the hood.
