Hello,

I have been reading through a number of posts and haven't found my answer to my trunk release issue.

As of right now I have the following hooked up to the Relay:

30 - Trunk Selenoid

87a - Switch side
86 - neg output from alarm
85 - 12V
87 - tried both 12V and ground (causing different fuses to pop)

Looking for some thoughts around what I have wrong.

Is there a factory switch?
If so test what happens when you press the button. It will either output neg. or pos. At the switch if it's one wire in to switch and one wire out. If neg. and your alarm output is neg, just join, no relay N.B. correct procedure would be to take that switch output wire, join a DMM set to amps rating and monitor the current draw when you press the switch as I said if it's under 150milliamps, just join. Test and let us know.

I haven't had a chance to fully test however I do not believe this will work. There are 3 wires going to the switch. 12v, ground, and the one to the Selenoid.

A couple of the install notes for this vehicle state that the switch side can not see 12v from the selenoid wire from the alarm and therefore I would need a relay.

To pop the trunk it requires 12v and the alarm output is (-)

So back to the drawing board..... based on theory the relay should be hooked up as follows:

30 - Trunk Selenoid

87a - Switch side
86 - neg output from alarm
85 - 12V
87 - 12V

The relay is correct. This should activate the trunk when 86 receives a (-) pulse.

I still don't understand 3 wires at the switch. N.B. Diurectechs ah a touch of Freud there gives grey and a 5 wire, so the relay configuration is correct personally on Mk lV types I go to the underdash control unit and pick up a low current neg trigger.
Jeff, why 3 wires? Unless 1 is illumination.

If the switch has the bulb in it, the third wire would be the illumination wire. My wire information tells me that it's GRAY at the switch in the glovebox and is 5 wire. If he tests the wire and it has 12 volts when you press the switch and if you cut the wire and the trunk release motor doesn't actuate, then he has the right wire.

Sorry Jeff, I really ought to put a * before my comments when I'm having a joke rather than a rant/grumpy old man! It was a US President who in the 1830s I believe attempted to rationalise English spelling.
In fact logically the North American versions are correct.
