Does anyone have any info or experience installing a clarion ohm642 flip down monitor into a 1999 gmc sierra or equivilent. The headliner has about 2inches of gap between the roof and the liner with seemingly nothing to support the mounting bracket except for the liner itself.

Hi littlelights, I'm not familiar with your Clarion piece, but if there is nothing above the headliner to mount your bracket to, you can re-enforce the headliner with Kydex, masonite, or even ¼" plywood. Make it large enough to span the area above the monitor, but small enough so it does not deform the shape of the headliner. Often you can find roof supports that you can screw any of this material into, then mount your bracket to it.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

thanks for your input, I successfully installed the flip down with not too much trouble at all. the mounting bracket had to be modified somewhat to allow me to get the monitor in the desired location and at the same time utilize the roof beams. the rear of the bracket is supported with a small scrap of 3/4 inch mdf between the headliner and the roof (where there is no beam)to make the monitor sit flat. this thing is up there so solid she aint goin nowhere. looks factory. As for the dome light option on the monitor after removing the factory light the monitor covered the hole perfectly.I utilized the factory dome light wiring (orange wire b+ white goes to ground when switched)
