I tried to replace the radio and now I only get the dash speakers (tweeters) to play any audio.

Is there an amplifier in the car that needs to be powered up? If so where would it be located

According to Audiovox, there is a red wire at the radio plug.  They have it labeled Power Antenna, If the car is not fitted with a power antenna, this may be the amp turn on wire.

ya i tried that.  I found the factory amplifier in the trunk. Passenger side. There was power at the amp but no audio. I think i blew the amp.

Do you know if it is like certain ford amplifiers that require 5Volts instead of 12 to turn on.

12 volts on a ford amplifier does not hurt the amp, it simply makes for a very loud turn on pop.  Did you check for 2 separate wires with 12 volts on them?  One is the constant power and the other will be the remote turn on.
