I have a 05 Silverado Crew Cab. My HU is the Bose model with single CD, Cassette, XM, and normal radio. The center console has the RSA (Rear seat audio) unit built in. I'm looking at installing an OEM DVD unit referred to in the manual as the RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment) system.
I know the DVD comes with wireless headphones whereas the RSA unit has L/R jacks for wired headphones.
Do these two items play ball with each other? That is, does the wireless headphones replace the wired headphones for listening to XM or Cd's when the RSE is installed? Or do they run as separate systems? Or does the RSE simply replace the functionality of the RSA?
My initial plan was to install an aftermarket DVD system with A/V input and run wires from the back of one of the RSA headphone jacks into the audio input on the DVD player. But this sounded sloppier more and more as I thought about it. I would have to rig up some toggle switches so that Kid #1 could optionally listen to XM while Kid #2 watched the Incredibles for the 10,000th time. So I decided to look at OEM.
Also, does anyone happen to know the pinouts of the harness that connects the RSE DVD system to the factory radio? I work at a limousine manufacturing plant with a full harness building crew. I could get one of these knocked out in a day, whereas the local Chevy dealership would likely have to order it (and charge out the nose).
Anyway, I appreciate any comments and/or advice on this.
