I installed an EONON in-dash DVD player with a reverse wire and a 12v camera (don't remember the brand) and used my dmm to find the reverse wire at the housing for the brake lights. But when I hit the brakes the screen blips and tries to flip over to the reverse camera for just a second but then goes back to what it was doing before. So if I push the brake pedal down and hold it the reverse camera view shows up for a split-second but then the radio / DVD player comes back on. And sometimes it stays on when I hold the brake pedal down if I've been driving around with the radio going.

I'm kind of new to this and was wondering if maybe there is some bleed through from the brake lights causing the reverse wire to show positive?

And if thats the case would putting a diode on the brake light wire solve the problem?

Has anyone else run into to this situation?

The car is a 99 miata and the reciever is an EONON 675 it just has one wire labeled BACK which recieves a +12v to switch the display to the backup camera. The camera actually gets it +12v from the reverse wire (so it doesn't stay on all the time) and is grounded to the body of the car.

your supposed to have it to the reverse lights not brake lights. That way the camera goes on in reverse and stays on until you put it in drive.

How are you supposed to see behind you? When you feel a bump and press your brake to see what you just hit? reverse camera on w/ brakes sometimes? -- posted image.

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.

Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

Maybe I wasn't clear - the camera is wired to the REVERSE lights not the brake lights and I realize my first post was long but if you're not going to read through please don't bother trying to help either.

My guess would be it is seeing a moment of voltage thru the bulb itself which is nothing more than a piece of wire. A poosibility for this problem could be bad ground at the bulbs themselfs. You could try islolating the brake with a diode...

I vote for MikeM2's answer. Check the ground of the bulbs. To diode isolate them you will need to find the ground wire of the reverse light cut it and insert the diode. Banded end needs to go to the chassis end and the non-banded end goes toward the lamp. You may need to do both sides of the vehicle. To see if this will work remove both reverse light bulbs if this fixes your problem the diodes will help you.
