Im starting to open up a shop some time this year, and whanted to get some ideas and information, as far as equipment go's. How much equipment should a new shop start like headunit, amps, speakers, woofers, eq's, alarms, etc...

All ideas will help me get my shop up and running.

it all really depends on the budget you have to work with and the products you carry.  the more the better is the way i look at it.  i am doing the same thing.  and i am at about 70 gs in inventory so far with what i am going to carry.
you can do it....

Guys, looking at this from a purely business perspective just answer the following questions.
1. How much business do you hope to have each month in dollar values?
2. How does this break down into catagories (amps, HU's. etc.)?
3. Is this a feasible number (have you checked out what similar shops are doing in your area - this is a great place to start general research)?
4. What is the lead time on products, ie. if you plan on selling 100 HU's/month but it only takes 2 weeks to get them in? This is a tough one as large orders probably reduce your cost but increase your inventory costs (wasted space).
5. What does it cost to keep excessive inventory - think Wal-Mart. While not great for car audio they do have one of the best inventory management systems in place in any business.
6. Go do some reading on inventory management - could save you thousands in the long run which is just more money to feed your obsessions.
Good luck guys - I am sure there are a lot of shop owners on here that have awesome advice for your ventures.

Its kind of difficult for me since most shops are 1 1/2 hours to an 1 hour away from were my shop is. I know walmart is the most common place ppl go to for car audio since there the only one close to sell car audio. I guess i wount know untill i start selling in the real world.

When do you plan on opening?
I would start with getting inventory that you need first stuff that won't be out dated by the time you open shop.
Like dash kits ,wire harnesses, wiring, bypass kits.ect.....and when it gets time to open then worry about the products you plan an carrying.
You want to have the newest products when the doors open. in my opinion. Good luck
well?
