We actually had some work today.  Kid brings in his car, wires and amp to install.  Looking at the amp, one side is sitting about 1/4" off the heatsink.  Thought I'd make sure it worked before putting in.  Surprise, it didn't.  Kid spend time trying to talk down price on the least expensive amp in stock.  (didn't have enough $, willing to leave cell phone)  Start install, look at wire kit, 0 gauge, tag on it said $329.95, ditrubtion block $49.95, interconnect (rca) 39.95, there was over $500 in stuff.  The amp $175.  But he had a $2000 amp at home!  The car, old Ford Probe with special body work........I have never seen a roof rust thru before, reminded me for a LeCar with canvas roof, only this cloth was on the inside.  Wire worth more than the amp, the amp worth more than the car.

I see that from time to time. or......how about the opposite? ever had sombody come in with a brand new Escalade or something and want you to install some no name brand deck, amp, or speakers they got from the flea market? those are always nice to deal with. i have customers all the time with a brand new (insert make/model here) and have an amp to install that is just like the one that I Am An Idiot posted pictures of that has no circuitry inside. i hate it when you just cant reason with then and they will not listen and then they complain when the vehicle leaves sounding WORSE than when they picked it up, haha!

First thought with customer's own....run a mile, then I calm down and tell them I will test it and there will be a testing charge if it's u/s. Over here substitute mid 90s Civics, Skylines, all (badly) pumped up. Got some lovely pictures somewhere of a little Citroen with all the inside plastics HAND painted witha brush, then there are their existing attempts at a sound system with cables, underdash LED tubes, all floating around the pedals. It's a great job. Did a mid 90s Impreza yesterday, Avital Alarm, rem start, actuator required in driver's door, think I spent more time tidying up the existing turbo-timer wiring than on the alarm.
