ignition switch

I am replacing the ignition switch on a 2001 Suburban. Like a dork when i took it out i played with the wheel, Im not sure what postion it should be in, any advice? A guy I work with said to just try it as the worst that will happen is something will be on when it shouldnt, kinda a trial and error type of deal. By the way has anyone else noticed some parts stores can get certain parts and some cant. I went to a advanced sort of parts store and they told me we cant get it and the part would be $200, I checked online with a Irisih parts store and they had it in stock for $140. These parts mostly come from the same suppliers with different boxes so why cant one store get is but others can?

If you didn't pull out the shaft, there should be no problem. Even then is there more than one locking position? The Irishi drive on the left side of the road which is the right (aka correct) side, hence their locks/keys are cheaper - unless perhaps another dyslexic site that mis-advertised their $410 unit.

And the Irish cars read their speed in miles so up etc.

I was wondering that - I heard the Irish were illiterate etc - it sounds like their cars are smarter. Is that the same tribe as the Irisih and Irishi?

I really think it's a spelling mistake! Don't knock the Irish, many of them were clever enough to make fortunes from the EU.

Im Irish myself, but I cant spell at all!!! I figured out an easy way to get the lock in the right place, after 5 trial and error steps. Turn the lock cylinder all the way back to accessory postion towards you sitting in the seat, also turn the ignition switch all the way away from the start position, this is the easiest way in my mind because you know both are as far turned as they can be.

Alas they have now lost a lot too.... those that gained the most lost the most. Maybe that's why Australia hasn't been effected much! The Irish were the victims of our jokes in pre-Biddelonia days. The yanks had the poles, the swedes had the norwegians, kiwis had us.... We too have a strong Irish heritage as does USA. The only think I dislike that the yanks ended up with africans and we ended up with poms - but the yanks had first choice.
