Funny story: Bought a 2001 Ram Truck off the Federal Government (Canada) via auction. I have to fly up to Port Hardy to get truck (tip of Vancouver Island). They tell me the battery is dead, so they loan me a battery so I can get a new one. I get new battery, return the loaner and drive off. About 50 miles south of PH, in the middle of absolutely nowhere (no cell service), the truck dies (dead battery). After hitchiking to an old lumber town, I pay $430 to have truck towed to 80 miles to Campbell River. I pull the alternator (obvious problem), but I have to wait until the next day to get a new one. Next day, while waiting for replacement, I go to a shop that fixes alternators, only to be told mine is good. Hmmm. So, I ask the boss if he can look at my truck and tell me where the alternator fuse is....duh, somebody took it! In haste or stupidity, the gov stripped the truck of all their gear (radios, flashy lightes etc.) and decided they wanted the alternator fuse.  This isn't a fuse you can pull, it is bolted down. They even took the time to screw down the bolts, so nothing would look out place. Anyways, I get the truck home, and try troubleshooting the Compustar...did the 5 times acc-on thing, but the truck wouldn't accept either of the two remotes I have...hmmm...so I look at the brain, and guess what? They took the antenna!

So, I do apologize for the long winded story, but I wonder if it possible to make a crude antenna? I don't need range, just something to check to see if they didn't cut any critical wires...

thx

If this is the 4 pin blue antenna harness, you can use any AM frequency antenna and it will work.

Good lord, I thought that your Gov. doesn't shaft you hardy colonials like it does in the old country.

Naw, the gov usually errs on the side of caution when shafting their subjects...this was a case of stupidity. Reminds me of a time, long ago, when I 'accidentally' deleted a bunch of DLL files from my work computer...doh!

But this sums up the gov here: a while back I worked for the gov and I was just a web hack making web pages, and my boss needed my expertise to find the CD-ROM drive on her computer! LMAO. What is even funnier, is that hunched over her, was the gov IT tech. He couldn't find it! That was a moment of embarrassment.

VM - I tried another AM antenna from a car alarm kit a neighbour gave me and didn't work...in the end, the antenna arrived in the mail a week later, and all is good again. I am still wizzed I never got FULLY reimbursed for the $430 tow charge...they split the cost with me...I understand buyer beware and all that, but I didn't get what they advertised in print and pics...

Thx, M

Try suing the Gov. in this day and age?
Orwell and Kafka couldn't have even imagined the way the Gov. can watch you nowadays.
