Doors unlock at ignition off

My car has a nice featuire wherein it automatically locks the doors when I shift out of park. But I am wondering what it would take to wire the car so that it then unlocks the doors when the ignition is turned off. Thanks!

im not sure about that, but i know alot of the cars that lock when you go out of park also unlock when you shift into park..Quad L Handyman services

Not mine. I drive a 92 Chevy Cavalier and in discussions with other Cav owners, we have determined that while only some cars have the locking feature when shifting out of park, none will unlock them for you.

you could put in a dei alarm. my 790xvr locks when i shut off remote start and unlocks when i turn the truck off. nice

none? my cousins 02 chevy 1500 locks/unlocks when he shifts out of and into park..

Your doors lock when the transmission is shifted out of park because the seat belt retractors in your car are in the front doors. In the event of an accident the doors must be locked/latched with the striker bolt in order for your restraints/ seat belts to functoin properly. If the doors weren't locked there is a possibility that your doors could fly open on impact and compromise your seat belts. I have the same thing in my car and used the ignition lock feature of my remote starter. This causes my doors to lock with the ignition on and unlock with ignition off. You can usually program the same feature to most keyless entries and alarm systems if you have one in your car. I don't think your vehicle has the circuits built into it to do this on it's own.sparky

I had a 93 Buick Regal that locked when I shifted into drive and did not unlock upon ign off. It becomes a habit where you dont even notice yourself unlocking the doors after turning the ign off, in fact, when I got in my van, after turning the ign off, I found myself reaching for the imaginary doorlock :) The seat belt was in the door like sparkie said, and I ended up putting a Viper alarm in it to unlock them. The newer Chevy trucks have an ign sequence you can do to have the doors lock or unlock, but I never found anything on the older GM cars about having them unlock at key off. Tim-May!
