I have been looking for a test mp3 that I could burn to a CD for various things.  I am trying to isolate rattles and want a deep bass note that will shake things at different frequencies, be long enough to provide time to find the culprit, and not too overpowering that I can't hear.  I don't know the exact technical term for what I want, but I think someone here can help me out.  My best guess would be a straight sine wave or would that just be pink noise? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could lead me in the right direction.

Yes, you want sine wave files.  You can record them at any frequency you choose and for as long as you want them to be.  I made myself a test CD using this frequency generator and have used it to find rattles, set amp gain, and set crossover freqs.  Another program that is known to be good, and like the first is free, is this one.
