How do I reduce 12V to 1V?

  How do I reduce 12V to 1V?   I am using a 1volt led and don't want to blow it as its a stock bulb.I could get a 12V led but it would'nt be stock.Thanks in advance,Joehi

470 - 550 ohm 1/4 watt resistor. Idealy you would have provided a current value for the LED, to be more accurate. But this range will do fine for a general purpose voltage drop. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

Thanks for getting back w/me.So I add the 1/4 watt resistor inline on the + side and that will do it . I am retro fitting my 00 vette with passenger side airbag cutoff switch and wanted the stock indicator light and bezel. this will complete it.Thanx again.Jhi

The LED really doesn't care if you give it 1 volt or 12 volts the thing that will hurt it is the current putting a resistor in line with the LED is what you want to do. Since this will be a series circuit the LED doesn't care if you put the resistor in on the + side or the - side just as long as you've got a resistor somewhere between about 200K ohm and 200 ohm. I'd tell you to use a resistor at or around 1k ohm. Remember the LED only works one direction, you won't hurt it if you hook it up backwards, but it only works one direction.
