I have a question and I have been away from car audio for awhile, time to put a system in my 99 Grand Am.

Any serious issues when removing the factory h/u?

Will the OEM amps stay dormant as long as I am not using the factory wiring?

Last but not least, how the heck do you get the trim off around the radio/ignition switch?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know the Amps will not work as a standalone head unit.
In order to take the trim off, you have to pop off the ingition switch cover which shows u the "off, start, acc" lettering. This just clips in.
once that is off the trim ring is held in with a series of snaps like u would find say on the door panels....U just have to pull it off.
when I did my friends GA i don't recall undoing may actualy screws around the trim piece but i'd just be careful while pulling just ot be sure there aren't any.
