Deep Fried Cars

Has anyone ever brought a car into your shop that has previously caught on fire because of a shoty wiring job for the stereo...

We had a guy call yesterday and say that his amps pow wire had melted...He said he hooked it up and now its fried and he wanted me to hook it up for him the right way....

Well this morning when we opened there was a guy outside with a Mazda RX7 on a trailor...He came in and stated he had an appoinment at 9:00 and wanted to drop his car off...I knew it was that guy...I stopped him right where he was and asked to see the damage...What I saw was Horrible...When he brought the UNFUSED Pow Wire through the firewall he brought it through the grommet that the main Wire harness of the car comes through...

It looked like he had woven it into the wires under the dash as they were all burnt and stuck together around the 4ga wire....The carpet had a distinct line going from driver side Kick Pannle back to the amp which still Stunk like mamas home cooking...all the wires that are in the rocker panel going to the rear of the car where he ran the 4ga were burnt as well....

This guy wanted me to basically rewire his car for him fixing the Main Harness of the car so he could drive it again AND THEN wire his NEW amp and subs up for him....

I told him to take his car and leave...Go to a car repair shop get them to fix the Cars Entire Harness and then come back to me to get the stereo installed...He was so pissed he probally wont come back...But I dont care I wasnt gonna touch that fire trap

Anyone else had something like this go down where you work???If so give us the story

ouch. what year was it. Sucks to see a 7 die like that.

 Sounds repairable.. gonna take some time though..

 Two that come to mind.. first was a car that was hit hard in the driver's side. The main front-rear harness got taken out. Used car dealer that was repairing the car had the bodyman fix it the first time. Bodyman used butt connectors to repair 30 odd wires.. all in the same location. It looked like someone was hiding a football under the carpet. Repair was to cut out the splices and add in some wire to extend the too short harness. Twist, solder, heatshrink. Good as new.

 Second was a flood car. Interior was submerged in salt water. Parts car came with it, my job was to gut the interior (down to the metal) and replace every interior electrical connector. every last one. Hundreds of connections. Twist, solder, heatshrink. The dealer sold it to his church minister. Years later, he's never had an electrical problem with it.

 I've done harness burnups.. I've assisted in complete wiring street rods. All it takes is a good gameplan and time.

I just love the look of a burned carpet that looks as though it has a hot snake underneath it.

I agree with forbidden on the burnt carpet look...But the look on the owners face is priceless....Kinda looks like he is thinking "How the hell did that happen...I thought you could use masking tape to splice and hold wires in place..."

Killer fishes...You asked what year model it was...I think it was a 94...Had a real smooth body style to it...Needed a paint job but other than that and the now Roasted harness and the smell of fried Ass in the car it was perfect.....Kinda broke me heart cuz a friend of mine owned an RX7 turbo and that thing was tha s&^*.....Loved ridin with him when he was racing....
