I grabbed the wiring diagram, or wire color listing, for my 1990 4runner from this site, took it out to my truck, and it doesn't seem to correspond. For example, it says yellow wire for the (-) left rear speaker, but there isn't even a yellow wire coming out of the stock stereo!! Another thing, there are 16 wires from the stereo, on only 13 or so in the list....any ideas?!?!

Follow your wire harness down to where the ashtray is located...You should see a Factory Amplifier...Unplug the two harnesses from the Amp...Those two harnesses have the wires that you are looking for...As far as any additional wires that are in the harness, they are usually used for dash lights/dimmer...Usually they are not used for most aftermarket head-units

I don't recall any 4 runner ever having a factory amp, and i have seen a lot of them. But Caraudio is right, if there is a factory amp or otherwise, the factory wires should be coming out of it. The colors from this site are accurate.
