Hi. I have been wondering and googling around trying to find some DIY instructions on converting the standard Handbrake to an electronic one like in he newer Audi Models. Has anybody done or heard something like that being done.

I know there are some commercial products, specially in vehicles for the disabled, but those are either hugely espensice or they don't get rid of the Handbrake lever.

So please if someone knows something, I'm happy about any kind of assistance.

without thinking too hard, a small high torque actuator would do the trick, and you could remove the handle and have the actuator engage and release the e-brake....

they are rated in how many pounds it can lift, so depending on how short you cut the handle of the e-brake, that will depend on how many lb/ft of lift it will require. it's much easier to lift the ebrake when it has the long handle attached to it, so if you remove that you need a lot more force to engage it. I cannot tell you exactly how much it will take, but buying one of those 5 dollar rope scales, the kind with a hook on either end, would be what I would get to measure, and use that as a starting point.
