Purchased a new soldering iron this weekend and I am having some trouble...

I cannot get the tip to Tin well enough to accept the solder....It will get hot enough to melt the solder but it just Balls up on the tip and does not transfer heat well...

Should I just buy a new tip or what???Any suggestions from the more experianced???

Yeah dude don't worry about it. Just touch your iron to what ever you want to solder to heat it up. Like the wires you are soldering. Then you push the solder into the heated wire. My personal suggestion is not to push the solder into the iron tip itself. It might turn your solder into a cold solder. But after a few uses your tip should start grabbing solder no problem.

Look into buying a pretinned tip.

When that happens it's usually because of a buildup of oxidation on the tip shafts where they contact the gun. The result is a loss in current. Loosen the set screws and remove the tip, sand it off until it's shiny, then retighten into the gun.

With a new iron that shouldn't be the problem, though. It might just not have good enough contact, or it's too small of an iron for the solder that you're using. Make sure the solder is resin core...when the resin flows onto the tip it will pull the solder.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
