Find Negative Coil Lead with Multimeter

Last year I put a CCS-100 on my motorcycle.  I used a multimeter to find the negative coil lead.  I'm helping someone else install one now and can't remember how I used the mutlimeter to find the negative coil lead. Thanks.

Set the meter on an A/C voltage scale. Measure from ground to the suspected wire and you are looking for a signal that varies between 1 and 9 volts with RPM.
