My stock alternator for my Mazda B2200 1989 is somewhere like 85 amps. But my sound system alone uses 165 amps alone for the 3 amps. Now tell me, will I be able to even listen to my sound system with my stock alt.? If not, how big of an alt. do you think I would need?

you can play your sound with the stock alternator but it's not a good idea to play it at full volume, you don't have 165A at those 3 Amps, you have 130A total the TA3401 has 2x 25A fuse and the TA3202 has 1x30A. so an 170A Alt. will be more than good for you.

How you figured out what the amperage was on my fuses for my amps I dunno... But one thing I can say, I mistakened myself as the two 3401's to be the total of 130 amps... So thats why I lead myself to add on the 3202's amperage and had 165. Xtra 5 amps is because of my cooling fans I have for my amps...

Well it certainly is good to hear I can use a 170 amp alt. But is my lights still going to dim? I have 2 of the big 3 done. Well, just as long as it all functions properly...

And BTW, what would happen if I turned up my volume with my stock alt.? Just out of curiousity?

yep 170A Alt should be good for your current setup, an bigger alternator will also be good it won't harm your current system, but it is good for future upgrades. And also a good battery.

it is possible to play it at full volume but for a short period of time, but i wont recomend doing it, the problem of playing your system at full volume for a long period of time on a not enoungh current Alternator is that the Amps are asking more power than the Alt. can produce causing the Alt. to fail and damage.

an HO Alt. and a good battery will help you with your dimming.

Well, I do plan on also running an airbag system for my suspension later on. I'd imagine it would mean it demands some good amperage. Not sure, because all I hear about it is to get an extra battery.

Well, now my problem herein lies with the alternator and fabricating to get it to fit right. Do you have any experience in this? If so, any help would be appreciated to help me understand how to make a dual alt. setup.

Okay, now I get it. Thats what I figured would happen to the alt. Haha, really, I just want to hear the bass HIT hard for a couple minutes. I've been wanting to hear it so bad for a long time now...haha.

If you're gonna listen to your system a lot while the car engine is off, then a second battery is good.

Adding a second battery is more strain for your Alt. because when your car engine is one all the power comes from the Alt. the batteries will be in charging position.

did you check with these guys for an ideal Alt. for your car?

I may listen to it when the vehicle is off. But even so, I will be hooking up an isolator for the 2 batteries. I have a guy on a website that has the same truck. He said stinger audio makes an alt. for our trucks. So, I've been trying to look into it. I'll give a look into your sites. Thanks for the help!

hex 170 is fine, but if you are playing at night in a cold area it's not enough. You'll need 215 amps minimum on the Mazda, your system may only draw about 165 but your car itself will also draw another 35 plus your current head unit (another 10-15 amps or so depending on model)
