I am doing wuite a bit of work to my car for customization, and one of the things I will be doing is rewiring the starter so I can use a push button instead of the traditional key start...

I am wondering how much amperage this button should be capable of withstanding...will a typical 3A 12V automotive momentary button do the trick or do I need something heavier to trigger the starter? should I just use a standard 30A relay and trigger the relay with the switch?

also, can anyone post some links to sites that sell automotive rocker switches? I would just do a search, but I prefer to deal with companies that others have dealt with before...I will be needing between 10 and 15 rockers, so I would like to use a smaller profile rocker if at all possible so the switch box doesnt need to be huge...

thank you for your input...

3A is likely not enough but it depends on the vehicle.  I would use a relay with that switch.

I'm a little curious on this subject...

I have a puch button start that I installed in to my car but you have to have the key into the acc. position.  Is there a way to wire another switch to say to "arm" the ignition so I then can use the push button start without using my key.  However I still want the use of my key.  On the other hand is theis even possible considering I need a bypass unit if I was to hook up a remote starter.  I have one of those chipped keys.  Anyone know anything about this.

Use a relay rated at 30/40 amps for your push button start. Have the switch grounded on one side and then attach the other side to one of the coils of a relay to engage teh relay. As far as your question goes, 5hift fast, you can use 2 relays triggered by a toggle switch to replicate the ignition & acc wires so you do not need to turn over the key in the cylinder.

Yes you will need a key in the ignition unless you bypass that which is not a good idea.

You can set up a relay bank that uses a universal type bypass module to bypass the key when you disarm the alarm system. When you arm the system, the Immobilizer will activate and you will retain the OEM anti theft system even without a key cylinder.
