second battery, 1986 cadillac deville

I basically have a 1986 cadillac deville sedan and I want to rewire all my extra copenets to the second battery. For example tvs etc. These tvs are running on a 12 volt connection how do I lower the voltage on the battery to power these tvs safely. I was told I must create a fuse box for the second battery came this be done or which is the best way for it. Thanks for all your help1993 sdv

The second battery will be charging from the alternator just like the first one so it will be 12 volts. You will want to fuse the cable on both ends that runs between the batteries. Also you will want to install a battery isolator between them to keep your starting battery from dying.

I think you misunderstood my question. I was pertaining to the fuse box that's in the interior. I would like one for the second battery... for instance if I was wiring a 12 volt device to the second battery can I wire it directly to the battery and ground it or what is the correct way to connect the 12 volt device to the battery thanks again1993 sdv

I have a1986 cadillac deville and I was wondering how to add a second fuse box for my aftermarket devices. I will need a set of 4 fuses at a 30 amp fuse rating. The second fuse box will be wired to the second battery which will have a isoloator/relay between the primary battery and second 1. But the issue is when the car is off the aftermarkert devices will be connected to the second battery and that will drain it. So how do I control it so where they turn on when the car is in accessory mode. Also I have a cigarette charger device which lead is postive and negitive on the male part of the cig charger thanks1993 sdv

You will need a big relay (or solenoid, as they are usually called when they get that big.  4 30A devices would total 120A so I would look for a device rated at 120A or higher.  You will then need to control the coil off of your OEM ignition.  The solenoid will isolate the 2nd fuse box from the 2nd battery when the cars ignition is off.Kevin Pierson

thanks for your help but the four of them are on a 30 total  another on a 30 and two other on cig chargers so that should be 90 can i use the same solienod or does it matter do you know where i can find a fuse box  for a car and how do i wire it to the battery1993 sdv

thanks one more question since im adding a second fuse box  how do i wire a fuse box to the second battey since i cant wire these  30a devices directly to the battery. i found a fuse box for a simliar model car as mine  would this work or do i have to use a box from scratch.i was told resistors work what  would be the best method to wire from the battery to the box safely1993 sdv
