hi folks, as a driving instructor i find myself always getting pupils to tip the nearside mirror down.  some cars like vw golf tip down when put into reverse.

is it possible to make any car to do this if so  how?

i realise i need to pick  up an input from reverse switch but modern cars are bit more complicated than the last car i was used to working on, mk2 fiesta xr2.  come to think of it there was only about a dozen wires on that!!

my car at moment is a mini cooper 07 plate.

any ideas would be appreciated

heeeeeeellllllppppppp wifes coming!!!!

It is possible to make any powered mirror tilt down when the car goes into reverse. It's getting the mirror back to the previous position that is the tricky part.

In my opinion, this is one of the few projects that isn't worth it unless you are truly willing to put a lot of time and money into it. You'll need a computer that can remember offsets on the motor in the mirror and the motor will have to be adapted as well with a distance (not time) sensor of some sort (probably an imaging sensor with a marker wheel). Then made to integrate into the car.

I am not aware of any companies that make such kits without having to fabricate and adapt aftermaket headlights with the system preinstalled on them.

Sorry about that... I'm sure that since there is a will, there might be a way.

Good luck on your search and sorry I could not be any help

You can implement a 'time' based controller with decent results.  It won't be as accurate as a closed loop system that provides real time positioning of the mirror, but for the much lower cost involved and much easier installation it is the way to go.  I have one on my car and it can cycle at least 10 times before it starts to get noticably out of adjustment.

Try googling "Mirror Tilt module" (with the quotation marks).
