Want to know the best option for adding cruise control to this vehicle. It is a fly by wire (Electronic) throttle. Getting lots of conflicting info.A few of the posts here have made refrence to being able to get a Steering wheel with cruise control switchs and being able to plug into a possible existing plug harness. But also talk about having to have a dealer reprogram software to the power control module(PCM) or the electronic command unit(ECU).And make it sound like if you dont have a buddy in the dealership its not something you can get them to do . Would just like some straight answers as to how it can be done and just what I have to buy \ do to hook it up and if this is the best way to go.Dealer said they could order the steering wheel and talked about having to also order the switchs sepertly but then went on to make it seem like a mission impossible. You know , all pessemistic. Also have heard I can possibly buy a universal aftermarket unit such as the Audiovox CCS 100 and use it to pull on the throttle pedel (since there's apperrently no throttle body or cable) But was also told the accellerator pedel return spring was too stiff(Too many foot pounds) to do this and would not work. Just would love to hear from someone that knows and can put it in realitivly plain english. You might notice I spelled out Drive by wire and the other usually abbreviated terms. Hope to get the same in a response.Thank anyone kind enough to solve this delema for me.

There may be a Ford kit that includes all the necessary items for the factory drive by wire cruise. Call your local Ford parts dept and inquire. You may have to buy the pieces separately. I have installed such kits on Ford fullsize vans and they aren't hard. The wheel is separate from the kit. The kit includes the airbag coil, switches and harnesses. You can also go to www.rostraa.com and see how they do a pedal pull aftermarket cruise. See the tech tip section for full details. You would be wise to use one of their electronic cruises. See their vehicle info section for more details. If the throttle is too hard to pull, they also offer a throttle multiplier kit which will apply alot more leverage to pull the throttle.

Just want to thank SPARKY for responding. But I dont know if you have really answered any questions or just planted more trees in the woods. As I wrote, I have spoken with Dealers about Steering wheels  and switchs. Advising  me down that allready taken path does not answer the other questions I posed re:reprogramming the PCM or ECU. And info from Rostra I got was that they dont make a specific unit for my application so theres not much info from them either . Again I am hoping to hear from someone that either can give me specific information on my type of application or that might be willing to share wireing diapghrams for the Ford 2003 E-350 Turbo Deisel. I saw in the past there is a company where you can order electrical,vacume,mechanical...info but each one was seperate and they wanted like $150 to $250! It would be great if people out there could share this info on line...

Anyway Sparky, I hope this dont come off like I am bitching at you , I just need much more info and much more specific answers to the many possible options there may or maynot be to do this job. Thanks again for the reply and I look foward to anyone elts out there willing to take some time to help me.
