I have a 12 inch Alpine Type R (dual 4 ohms). What would be the best enclosure for this sub?

I heard that building a ported box for this sub is the best thing to do. But I don't have the time and money to do so. Please be honest if either box will do or not. I have a 93 Toyota Camry (4 dr), and yes my back seats can be put down. I'm looking for a lot of SPL and and little SQ. Please don't make fun of me, I'm a noob :o.

The sealed enclosure would work. The ported enclosure may work but there is no information about the tuning frequency of the enclosure. That is a vital piece of information that should not be left out by any good quality enclosure.
If you are looking for SPL more then anything else with not much concern about SQ then the ported would work. I'm sure it has a high tuning frequency which is great for loudness. Not so much for any type of sound quality, however.
The Type-R does perform best in a ported enclosure so I would suggest a properly built ported enclosure. The problem is most prefab enclosures are not properly built or are poorly designed for most subs. Spending a little more on the enclosure will pay off in the end. The enclosure is a vital part of the overall sound of your sub so don't overlook it.

Personally I love the Type-R in a properly built ported enclosure.
If you had to choose only between those two then I would ask Sonic exiwhat the tuning frequency of the enclosure is. If it is higher then 36Hz or so I would get the sealed enclosure. Otherwise I would ge the ported enclosure.
The Type-R in a sealed enclosure isn't bad but it isn't as loud as a ported enclosure. If loudness is what you are looking for then you would want a ported enclosure for sure.

Well I say lower then 36Hz because any higher and you get a really "peaky" sound from your sub. That means you will get really loud bass at some frequencies but not much at others. Having a higher frequency is going to decrease the overall sound quality.
The lower frequency does not necessarily mean the better. The tuning frequency is going to be a big indicator of what the sub will actually sound like. Your sub will perform best in a certain range of tuning frequencies. So you can have too low of tuning as well. I have yet to see a prefab enclosure with too low of tuning though so that is why I only said to look out for too high of a tuning frequency.
36Hz is just a general number I used. It is what I personally would not go over with that subwoofer.
If the enclosure is tuned over that then I would say look for another ported enclosure. Making your own or getting one custom made would be ideal but you said you didn't want to spend much on a custom one and didn't have time to make your own. Since that is the case I would look online for another enclosure that will fit your subs needs.
Although that sealed enclosure may fit better out of the two choices you had it is not going to be the best for the type of sound you are looking for. I would suggest you look at ported enclosures if you want to get the most output from your sub.
