Hey all, I usually only do system installs and I'm getting into video.  I'm tired of building wooden boxes and would like to move into fiberglass.  How much would it cost in materials (mainly glass cost is my concern) to build a glass enclosure for 2 10in subs?  I hear glass is expensive...

Also, any pointers for a first timer?  I feel pretty comfortable with the procedure but I know that preperation and comfort are no substitution for experience...

first before you get started on a box try to work with a peice of wood or other object to glass ,putt a couple of coats down and try to get used to the process then smooth it out with some bondo and when you get comfortable  with all of it move on to the box. check around wiyh local supliers on the glass find the deal and go for it.  If you are gong to do alot of glass work and have the resources try composite one at 800 -334-7498 for 55 gallons of resin it is around 500.00  and  shipping , not bad when it runs about 25 a gallon

Hey exxoituc, I like the idea of glassing over a piece if a 2x4 or something or maybe some fake mdf rings, just anything to add shape... itd be cheaper and yah, once I'm used to it ill be able to save some money by not ruining my box... what im curious about now is cost... how much does a gallon glass?  like on average or a rough estimate... if i just made something, lets say 1x1x1 and wanted to glass it for practice, how much do you think it would take?  how much would it cost?  thanks, im a newb and poor, so please any help would be appreciated... i can scrape together a couple 100 bucks if it will go towards good practice...

for a couple of hundred you should be able to practice and build yourself a box.    1rst      take  20.00 and buy a 4 x 8 sheet of   3/4 mdf and build a box frame or skeleton 2nd  form speaker grill cloth ( 15.00 ) over your frame structure and then you need about 2 or 3 gallon of fiberglass resin  25.00 each and 1 or 2 gallon of bondo 27.00 each and then primer and paint ( about 1 pint will do ) and clearcoat depending on the paint you choose. that should give you a good idea all you need is practice.
