Has anyone ever installed a sub in the place where a glovebox normally resides on a car?
I'm considering building an enclosure for this area in my '94 Celica out of a combo of MDF for the flat parts and fiberglass for the curved parts. I'd get the airspace as close to .3 cubic feet as possible, and then install an Image Dynamics ID8v3 sub into the enclosure.
I'm curious as to whether or not this is a good idea, and how it might sound having a sub in the dash of the car. 8 Sub in place of Glovebox? -- posted image.

having a sub for a glovebox is a very original idea, i think for looks itll be alright having a sub just on one side. sound im not sure about, but im sure sound will be a little uneven.  i've seen a photo with a small sub in the center of the dashboard (near the defroster) sticking straight up, or if you have a console make an enclosure for a sub right there. i think if your looking to have a sub closest to the passenger & driver, a sub in the center console will be best cause it's right in the middle giving equal sound either side and itll be prolly just as much work as replacing your glovebox for one.

or...have 2 6" subs in the glovebox area. one tilted towards the passanger, the other tilted the other way...

just trying to throw out ideas. goodluck with it

years ago i put a 12 inch sub in the dash of an older body style camaro with it down firing toward the floor, sounded great, took up little space, and was so trick and got lots of props on it since nobody could figure out at first where all that smooth bass sound was coming from.

may try having the 8 firing toward the firewall and then using fiberglass to create a vent to carry the sound toward the floor. pretty easy bandpass style enclosure, making effective use of space that is seldom used.
