How many fiberglass layers should be enough for a Mtx thunder 8000 runnin on about 300 watts rms ? About half of the enclousure will be made of mdf.

as thick as the wood.... if you got 1in. MDF and make it 1in. fiberglass, that sub could hammer. I have one.

That depends on a few factors.
How large is the enclosure? Are there large, flat areas?
How curved is the enclosure? Fiberglass is much stronger in curves.
What kind of wrapping cloth are you using? Thick cloth will need less fiberglass layers.
What weight of fiberglass cloth are you using? Again, thicker cloth will need fewer layers (assuming good resin penetration and no bubbles).
Basically the answer is - until it no longer flexes. If you can push in on the enclosure with your thumb then you definitely need more layers. Otherwise add a few layers and try it out. If you have problems, add more layers. This experience will help you with the next enclosure and you'll have a better idea how many layers to apply initially.
