I'm going to mount a couple amps on top of a box and would like to try the floating amp look.  The plan is to mount them to either wood or plexi/lexan.  Let me know if this sounds right:

1 - the piece that the amp mounts to should be the exact size of the foot print of the amp.

2 - to get the floating effect, I should just use some dowel rods and pitch the amp in a way that you can't see the rods.

Now, if all that is right, how do I hide the wiring?  If anyone has any pictures of some nice amp racks like this, I'd really appreciate it.

if you could use some sort of hollow tube instead of the rods, you could run the wires through them.

I usually would use some black pvc tubing. Basicaly mount the amp's baffle to the tubing and mount the amp to the baffle with 1/2-3/4 spacers and run the wires from the tubing, under the amp to the terminals (well not neccesarliy in that order). The tubing is hard to see if done right

I had a guy do this for 2 amps I had installed once... He used pvc and MDF, and since I "DROVE" my car the mdf ended up ripping out of the screws from the pvc... So i'd reccommend using metal tubing and welding it up and then making a false floor out of wood and bolting the amp "holders" down... But you can do what you want... Its just if you take a few corners at any rate of speed and you have a big ol amp on there the weight might make it break. But if you're using a 100 watt amp then i'd probably say go with the pvc...
