fiberglass maintenance

I am looking to buy a fiberglass boat (I know its not car stereo fb) and was wondering if any one knew of how to keep the fb in good condition, to avoid the checks and cracks. Another question, perhaps to big or general, but is there any way to repair cracks and checks? thanks, dan

I wonder if you could reinforce all these cracks and stuff from the bottom,  you should be able to seperate the entire top from the hull by removing the rubber ring all the way around the boat and drilling out the rivets holding it together. Then I would think you could flip the entire thing upside down and lay some glass in there everywhere you see crack just to give it some extra strength I would even sand it down a little bit in those areas and then glass back over it.  Then if your good with gel coat you could probably sand the entire top down and redo the gel coat on it. Its definately alot of work but if it comes out right it would be worth it in my opinion. But its really risky!  I may be all wrong about this btw also. This was just my theory, I do know you can take them apart though me and my dad did this to our old ski supreme.
