The folks at Elemental Designs recommended plain old isopropyl rubbing alcohol when I was installing my eDead.

I was putting it in a 15 year old car, so I used some degreaser first to clean off most of the dirt and grime and then the rubbing alcohol as final prep.  Worked like a charm.  Rubbing alcohol is like $1 a bottle and can be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart or wherever.
