hi all,

im thinking of glassing my door cards.the front of the card is upholstered with a vinly/leatherette material, the rear of the card is like compressed cardboard.it resembles wood but not that strong and it flakes easily.

i want to fleece the front and then glass it,but should i remove the upholstery from the card's front in order for the glass to grip better to the door card.i really dont want the glass loosing its grip.is this the best option to go ahead with?

cheers,

dave.

Removing the upholstery isnt going to make a difference as far as structural integrity. Generally I do it anyway just because Im anal about that kind of stuff, and dont want it left behind for someone to see sometime down the road.
But if you plan to fleece the card (aka door panel) and apply resin.. if done properly is going to be plenty strong and adhere to the panel fine. Make sure to fully soak the fleece with plenty of resin.
Good luck with your project.

hey drvnbysound,

thanks for the feedback.

if i just fleece the door then, will i still need to glass it? and if i do,what product do i use as the final finishing layer so i can smooth it out and paint it? thanks for the reply and future reply.
